A Mantel Makeover

 

I’m feeling a little nostalgic. Even though we are mostly settled in our new home, I am still missing our former home of 10 years.

Let’s take a walk down memory lane, shall we?

On a cold rainy day in February 2001 the hub and I walked into an Open House, and this is what we saw.

I loved the brick and I loved the fireplace, but I wasn’t feelin’ the fancy schmancy decorative plaques on the fireplace mantel.  It just didn’t seem to fit with the casual feel of the home.

Not that these plaques would have been a deal-breaker, but still!…

We made an offer on the home, and after 24-nail-biting-hours, our offer was accepted. The seller got 3 offers.

Almost exactly 10 years later, we had made a lot of changes.

Making A Hydrangea Garden

It seems appropriate on the day of my Wedding Anniversary (Happy Anniversary, Sweetie!) that I plant the idea of Making A Hydrangea Garden.

I did carry a Hydrangea Bouquet, and the traditional girl that I am, I even had blue flowers on my wedding gown [gasp]!

And yes, of course, my husband noticed this nice little touch!

Good Hedges Make Good Neighbors – Citrus Edition

A gardening friend once said, “you can always tell the California transplants by the Citrus Tree they planted in their garden.”  I think she was on to something.

Call me a transplant.  Citrus makes a great border plant providing privacy AND interest.
